Ciuró asks the Government to adapt the legislation on the protection of victims of violence to the EU regulation

The CiU strives to ensure the victims of any type of agression the same level of protection as in the rest of the European Union.

The spokesperson for Equality from the Catalan Political Party (CiU) at the MP Congress, Lourdes Ciuró, is to defend on Wednesday a new law proposal to the Equality Commission which urges the government to adopt the sooner the better the judicial ordenance of the European legislation on the protection of victims of violence.

The Chief of Equality for CiU explains that the amended European law on protection has the goal of assuring that any measure which can be applied in a state regarding violence is imposed in any member state the victim moves to.

“We want to assure victims of any type of agression (assault, violence, homophobia or mistreatment) the same level of protection as in the rest of the EU”, affirmed Ciuró.

The CiU MP specified that, even though the majority of measures are to the benefit of women, it will also be appled to victims of both sexes and children and it is expected the benefactor will be able to ask for protection for relatives.

In specific, the new law proposal of the Catalan Political Party (CiU) textually states:

“The MP Congress urges the Government to activate the legal, reglamentary and administratiry dispositions necessary to fulfill what is stated in Law 2011/99/EU of the European Parliament and the Councill, from December 13th 2011, on the European regulation on protection”.
